Driver Scoring

Safer drivers, lower costs, proof you can show

A transparent 0 to 100 safety score per driver, built from real harsh-event detection with real thresholds. Coach on specifics, not hunches.

What you get

Measurable. Specific. Coachable

No black-box ratings. Every score is built from events you can replay on the map.

Composite safety score

A weighted 0 to 100 score per driver across five dimensions. Letter grades from A (excellent) to F (critical) for quick triage.

Harsh-event detection

Concrete thresholds: 2.5 m/s² for harsh braking and acceleration, 0.6g for cornering above 30 km/h, 10% over the posted limit for speeding.

Per-event GPS context

Every harsh event is pinned to a location on the map. Coaching becomes specific to the corner, the roundabout, the stretch of road.

Improvement over time

Scores update every 30 seconds. Trend views by week and month surface who is improving and where intervention is working.

Harsh events

Concrete thresholds, not vibes

Every harsh event is triggered by a specific sensor reading above a published threshold. Drivers see why a score dropped; managers see where it happened and at what speed.

  • Harsh braking and acceleration at 2.5 m/s²
  • Harsh cornering at 0.6g lateral above 30 km/h
  • Speeding at 10% above the posted limit
  • Every event logged with GPS coordinates

Coach on what actually happened, not what you suspect

Pull up a driver's week. See each harsh event with its location, speed, and timing. Compare against peers in the same vehicle class. Have the conversation once, because the data is already on the table.

  • Grades from A to F for fast triage
Common questions

Frequently asked

The score is a weighted composite on a 0 to 100 scale. Acceleration smoothness and braking smoothness each contribute 30 percent. Cornering control contributes 25 percent. Speed consistency contributes 10 percent. Eco-driving efficiency contributes 5 percent. Scores are calculated from raw device data and updated every 30 seconds while a driver is on the road.

Harsh braking and harsh acceleration trigger at 2.5 m/s² of change. Harsh cornering triggers at 0.6g lateral force when speed is above 30 km/h. Speeding triggers at 10 percent above the posted limit (for example, 55 km/h in a 50 km/h zone). Each event is logged with its GPS location, speed at the moment, and vehicle identifier, so you can review it on the map.

Grades map to score bands: A is 90 to 100 (excellent), B is 80 to 89 (good), C is 70 to 79 (acceptable), D is 50 to 69 (needs improvement), and F is 0 to 49 (critical). The industry benchmark for professional drivers is 75 and above, which aligns with a B grade.

Yes. Smoother driving reduces fuel consumption by 10 to 40 percent and reduces accident risk significantly. Our customers typically see the biggest improvements in the first 8 to 12 weeks as drivers adjust to the feedback loop. The per-event GPS context helps managers coach on specific situations, not vague complaints.

Yes. Drivers with mobile access see their own score, recent trips, and harsh events through the Yipii mobile web app. This closes the feedback loop and gives drivers agency over their improvement, which tends to produce better buy-in than top-down reporting.

The scoring itself and performance analytics are included at all tiers. A Driver Add-On unlocks extras like driver timesheets, in-app messaging, and gamification features for fleets that want to run structured coaching programmes. Ask sales for the specifics that apply to your fleet size.
